The USA Hapkido Union, Inc. is proud to announce that Grand Master Jan Brown is the New York State Director. He is responsible for vetting prospective member schools in the state and Chairman of the State Exam Committee for Black Belt Rank testing and advancements.

Grand Master Brown is a US Air Force Veteran and graduate of the US Air Force Leadership Schools. He has graduated from the Non-Commissioned Officers Preparatory Academy, Noncommissioned Officer Academy, and the Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Academy at Air University on Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama.
In addition to his extensive leadership education, he has had a very impressive martial arts career that includes attending Instructors and Masters Courses as well as serving in leadership positions. He is undisputedly one of the most Senior Hapkido Grand Masters in the United States.

Experience: Started training in the martial arts February 1968. Currently have 49 years total training time in the martial arts. Started teaching in 1976, 40 years teaching experience, promoted 63 students to various levels of blackbelt rank. Several are now instructor & master instructor certified. Instruction provided to adults and children ages (5-76). Managed commercial and military martial arts schools. Management experience includes contractor services for Non-appropriated fund (NAF) activities. Conducted testing and training for local, regional and national organizations. Attended competitions on local, state, regional, national and international levels. Established 105th Martial Arts Group at Stewart Air National Guard Base in 1989, first Air Force Reserve Component Installation with a fully accredited martial arts training program, this program has been in continuous operation from its inception. Tae Kwon Do is the primary training program for Stewart ANGB, however Hapkido was added as a supplemental training opportunity, truly cementing the 105th martial arts group concept of offering training diversity for a well-rounded martial arts curriculum. Currently teaching blackbelt level classes as well as instructor development programs for all of my practicing black belts. During a military deployment to El Salvador was able to share my martial arts experience by training the El Salvadorian military members on the deployment. Briefed United States Ambassador to El Salvador regarding our martial arts program and additional training opportunities for deployed service personnel. I’m now qualified as a master student who loves to learn about martial arts. Currently instructing: United States Military Academy, West Point, New York, under exclusive contract for the past 16 years. Founded: The American Tae Kwon Do & Hapkido Academy @ West Point in 2000. Six Black Belt level students have been promoted. Retired: USAF (1 April 2006).
